Boredom Can Be a Good Friend, Use it Wisely

You found yourself once again bored.  Searching the 'Net, you don't find nothing much that interests you.  You log off, reach out to a loved one or friend and they appear to be bored like you.  You open the fridge and what's inside is boring!  What to do?

Treating boredom like it is a bad thing to experience will not lift your spirits.  Rather you will start to behave negatively and you might take out your feelings of boredom on the unsuspecting family and friends around you.  That's not good!  What might be driving your boredom especially if it has become a routine with you?  Knowing the answers as to why you often become bored might help you feel better about yourself.

Bored people usually become this way because they simply don't bother to break habits.  They don't think that trying a new way of doing something, going out on an adventure, or shopping at a different place is necessary.  However, it becomes all-too important to make swift changes when unfortunately you lose out on someone or something.  But there are some great things ahead for those who treat boredom as a friend that comes for a visit but has to go sooner or later.  Here's what you can do.

1) Don't force yourself to do anything when you are bored.  For instance, stop surfing the net or playing a game that you know you are so over!

2)  Sit still, breathe, and quiet your mind.  Welcome serenity!

3)  If you have a personal faith, take the time to pray for yourself and others, give thanks, confess sins, and repent.

4)  Write down how you feel along with problems you would like to solve.

5)  Share with someone you trust how you have been feeling lately.  Be open and honest, but don't share too much about anything negative that you might be feeling toward the person you are talking to.  The last thing you need is to argue.

6)  Pull out your calendar and search for things to do out of your typical place of comfort.  Too often people miss out on some great community events, seminars, grand openings, shopping deals, movies etc. because once again they are stuck in their routines.

7) Make phone calls and write emails you have been putting off.

A moment of "I am so bored with..." can lead to some wonderful things, so take the time to discover what they are!

10 Things to Do with Children in a Boring Environment While on Vacation

Photo by Charlein Gracia on Unsplash
Whether you and children are visiting a low-energy relative’s home with nothing to entertain young guests or visiting a public building with long lines, plan in advance to keep children busy.  The following are tips to help you as well maintain your sanity while with them!

1)  Ask the host or person responsible for the dwelling or public area if they have anything to entertain children.

2)  Bring children’s favorite items (quiet toys) from home or those that they haven’t seen in awhile.

3)  Make up games that involve movement like Charades or Musical Chairs.

4)  Use your voice and guide them in song or reciting something fun if the place doesn't require you to be quiet.

5)  Show them around the area if it is big enough and point out details.

6)  If you are able to walk or run in a large open space, you can set up races with the children.

7)  Craft projects are also a good way to past the time.  Look up fun and easy crafts that require minimal tools.

8)  Traditional children card games like Go Fish and Old Maid are fun to play with little ones.

9)  Check phone apps that are multi-player and pass the phone around.

10)  Play cool Bingo games there are many educational ones like learning shapes, letters, numbers and foreign languages.

11) Tell children funny stories about your youth.

12)  Create a drawing using pens, pencils and other writing tools to pass the time away.  Tic Tac Toe and Hangman are fun activities.

When the children are quiet and busy, this makes everyone content and traveling to new places aren't so overwhelming.  Also, please remember to bring headphones along when carrying gaming devices!

Have a great time!

Cheap or Free Stuff to Do this Summer

So my quest began to do something cheap or free this summer.  I checked out a list of family oriented activities and thought it might be helpful to share.  I hope this information inspires you to live a little this season--beautiful days don't last long, so make the most of them! Children and grandchildren cooped up in a house (no matter the size) can wear on your nerves.  Get them out and about!

5 Things to Avoid When Already Feeling Bored

As much as we love our luxury items like that comfy chair or electronic device that has everything under the sun on it, these are also the things that at times keep us in a bored state of mind too.

The comforts of home keep the body in a relaxed state, but sometimes the mind fights for change.  “When are we going to do something different?”  One is moody, tired, and wanting to change routine, but doesn’t.  Why?  From a daily routine that is not easily broken to running away from responsibilities, people bore themselves to tears simply using what they love way too much only to look for yet another thing and another to entertain them!  It is a vicious cycle that even the body begins to rebel against.

1) Television

It doesn’t matter what you watch, you find yourself flipping through channels mindlessly.  It is easier just to sit back and enjoy the show; rather than prepare yourself to go out into the world and have a real life experience.  Television shows lull you into a trance and make you feel like you can’t go anywhere even when you should.  Like a hypnotist controlling his or her willing subject, so too are you who is allowing a man-made device to control your thoughts and movements for many hours.  It isn’t any wonder why most people don’t get much done on their off days?  They also experience weight gain and what is sure to follow is the following: achy joints, back pain, poor vision, memory issues, frequent head aches and more!

2) Recliner

Absolutely a wonderful invention wouldn’t you agree?  But it also becomes a problem when you don’t do much else, but sit day after day, week after week.  You feel comfortable and at ease for a time.  Yet, your body wants to be active and will fight you for not doing what it wants.  Can we say a future with increase sickness awaits you?

3) Gaming

Like television, gaming entertainment is a great escape when you don’t want to face reality, but consider how much time you have already put in.  Wins and losses can be overwhelming.  The games just aren’t as fun as they used to be.  If you are not only bored with some games, but in a sour mood too, just stop!  But if you can’t, you are an addict.

4) Computer

No one can talk to you when in front of the computer.  No one is permitted to enter when your on the computer.  No matter what you do on the computer, it is never enough!  Computer usage becomes boring, when one has no plan for its use and no cut off time either!

5) Phone

Whether you are talking, swiping, scrolling, typing, or whatever you do, this too can be draining and especially boring when you do the same thing for hours everyday.  Give that phone a break!  Chances are someone who needs to talk to you is being given little or no attention.  Don’t be surprised when they deem you boring and move on.

The key to ending those negative feelings surrounding boredom is to make a point not to continue to participate in activities that tire and bore you.  Take time away from each device by getting outdoors, visiting relatives and friends, attending a special event, or having fun anywhere but in front of an electronic device.  Take frequent breaks and rotate your entertainment as well as limit the amount of time that you use it.

When You're Bored Try...

Sometimes boredom comes out of no where and any where!  You were quite busy only a moment ago, accomplished much from your "To Do List," and then suddenly you are sitting there with nothing to do.  Maybe you still have a few more things to complete, but boredom and procrastination has taken over at the same time, bummer!

Here are some tips on getting out of that "I'm bored..." attitude and on with life!

1)  Try listening to your favorite up tempo music.  This helps when you have been working in a quiet atmosphere for hours.  You can also stop by YouTube and search for classical or brainwave music that energizes.  Here on this blog off to the right is Revolution Radio, check out their playlist as well.

2)  Get up and move around i.e.) stretch, take a walk, jog, etc.  Seated in an office chair relaxes your body so much in fact that you start to feel tired and lazy.  There are some great videos around the web to help out.

3)  Converse with your neighbor when permitted if you are at work.  Share how you feel, ask him or her a question about interests/family/job.  Time goes by a little faster when you talk to others.

4)  Fix or organize something in your workspace or at home.  Thinking about a task helps take your mind away from how bored you feel.  You start to feel more alive and productive when you finally get to those projects you have been putting off for a long time.

5)  You probably already viewed your phone and scrolled through websites.  How about purging apps on your phone, reorganizing them, and reaching out to a few contacts with a fun image expressing your boredom.

6)  Start up the car and simply drive.  No particular destination, just drive.  A thought or two will come to you like the milk, eggs, butter, juice, and bread you have yet to buy.  Check out B vitamins (or alternatives), they are great in keeping most people energized throughout the day.

7)  Read things you promised yourself you would get to one day like books, documents, brochures, etc.

8)  Go back to those websites in your favorites listed in your Internet browser and register like you planned on doing like how many weeks or even years ago!

9)  Schedule your dentist or doctor's appointment--stop putting that off, you don't want things to get worse!

10)  Write a letter or mail out a greeting card to your favorite people (it doesn't have to be a holiday season)--wouldn't they be shocked!  People do still like to receive other things in the mail besides bills and junk.

I'm sure you can think of a few more things you can do.  Back to work...

New Year New You So They Say (sigh)

Are you really a new you?  Well, only time will tell as you put your resolutions, declarations, goals, promises, etc. into motion.  Oftentimes those who scream the loudest, "New year, new you!" Don't live up to what they say personally or professionally by the end of the year.  More of the same for many the following year and the year after.  What separates those who are determined to take on a new self is discipline, determination and desire!  They know what they want; they plan for their successes and failures and they work daily, weekly or monthly until that task is crossed of the list and then on to the next one!

When I set up my writing schedule, my goals evolved around getting my books published while saving much money doing it.  I had a set period of time and I posted my approximate finish date where I could see it.  Nothing or no one was going to stop me!  I wrote when I awoke, after lunch and then again late at night when the atmosphere was most quiet.  I was content personally when my goals were reached.

Whatever you want to do, go all out!  Don't be that guy or gal who talks just to hear his or herself talk!  You are fearfully and wonderfully made!  You have the will to live, so why not live to your fullest potential?  Too often we have distractions: people, places and things that don't aid us in meeting our goals, but rather keep us in a box.  If you sincerely want to build a new you, you have to let toxic people, places and things go!  You will soon find out just how toxic they are when you start embarking on your journey to meet personal and professional goals.  I personally had to let once dear relatives and friends go, because I soon realized they didn't care too much about what I set out to accomplish especially if what I did interfered with being their hour long listening ear as well as assisting them.  Time was money and trust you me, I had once wasted a lot of it!

So many people start out on a good course, but end up abandoning it within three months of the new year.  Why?  Because they simply allow life distractions to knock them off course, old habits don't die easily, and neither do unhealthy connections.

If you sincerely want to work toward being a new you, work from the inside out!  Uplift yourself mentally, spiritually and physically first!  Do the kind of things that not only decorate you on the outside, but make you over on the inside too!  Listen to wise counselors who achieved their dreams and implement immediately what you learn.  Achievement comes with focus, perseverance, as well as a strong desire to break unhealthy partnerships.

Have a great new year building a new you!
